In April, 2000, CAI created a partnership with Central Congregational Church
(CCC) Arts Ministry in Jamaica Plain, MA, to create an Artist Support Program(ASP).
Because of economic trends and gentrification, performing and visual Artists
are being pushed out of Boston, and the artists who manage to stay are constantly
fighting high overhead costs just to survive. Local artists need moral support
and affordable exhibition, performance, social, learning, and spiritual development
space.
The Artist Support Program is CAI's project to complement the Arts Ministry
at the church to build audience and support for local (Boston area) performing
and visual artists by providing space and other types of support for productions
and exhibits and social events. Member artists have a place to meet discuss,
learn and do something about issues that effect them besides space such as race,
gender, equipment and supplies.
In the last year, the ASP has presented 17 performances, 2 group exhibitions,
and 2 forums at The Junction - located at 85 Seaverns Ave., Jamaica Plain. There
are 80 ASP members, and the membership is growing. To find out more, click
